Matt Adams placed on disabled list with shoulder inflammation; Grichuk recalled

The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight’s series opener in Chicago that they have recalled outfielder Randal Grichuk from Memphis (AAA) and placed first baseman Matt Adams (left shoulder inflammation) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 10.

Grichuk, 24, is batting .213 with 12 home runs and 35 RBI in 84 games with St. Louis this season. He’s had two stints (June 18 -July 5 and August 2-10) at Memphis this year, batting .250 (7-for-28) with a double, triple and home run in eight games played during his most recent tour with the triple-A Redbirds.

Grichuk owns a career .248 batting mark with 32 home runs and 90 RBI in 234 games with St. Louis.

Adams has posted a .249 batting average with 12 home runs and 44 RBI in his 95 games played this season, ranking among Major League leaders in pinch-hitting with a .385 mark (10-for-26), 2 HR’s and 9 RBI.
