Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina responded critically on social media Friday to manager Mike Matheny’s recent comments apparently implying the veteran backup was noticeably tired.

“Yadi’s caught a lot,” Matheny told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Thursday, when Carson Kelly, recently recalled from Memphis, received the start. “Yesterday, just kind of watching him go around the bases, too, you could tell that he’s, you know…” As the Post-Dispatch’s Mitchell Forde writes, “Matheny changed course mid-sentence, but he was implying that Molina is tired.”

On Friday morning, Molina responded to his manager’s comments, writing in an Instagram post (which included a screengrab of the Post-Dispatch story): “I train to play 174 games because that’s what it takes to be Champion, I’m not tired and the day I feel tired I’ll express it myself. #misinforming”.

Molina’s post was “liked” on Instragram by teammates Tommy Pham and Kolten Wong.
