Encouraged by the results of Trevor Rosenthal’s exam with a specialist on Tuesday, the Cardinals now believe the right-hander could potentially be activated before the end of August, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Placed on the disabled list July 26 with inflammation near his right rotator cuff, Rosenthal was not diagnosed with any structural damage, and after having a platelet-rich plasma injection in his shoulder on Tuesday the former redbirds closer is likely to begin a throwing program in roughly a week’s time.

“I think, for him, he feels pretty confident that this will help get him over that hump and then allow him to get throwing again,” general manager John Mozeliak told MLB.com’s Jenifer Langosch. “We’re very optimistic that by late August he should be ready to go.”

MINOR LEAGUER DOYLE HIT WITH SECOND SUSPENSION

Cardinals minor league infielder Luke Doyle, currently serving a 50-game suspension for testing positive for an amphetamine, has been dished out an additional 100-game suspension for refusing to take a drug test, Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday. A 20th-round pick from the 2015 draft, Doyle batted just .207/.345/.354 with the organization’s rookie league affiliate last season.
