Post-Dispatch Sports Columnist Bryan Burwell dies at 59

After a short battle with cancer, longtime St. Louis Post-Dispatch Sports Columnist Bryan Burwell passed away early Thursday morning at the age of 59.

Burwell joined the Post-Dispatch in 2002 and has covered the St. Louis sports teams, including the Rams, Cardinals, Blues, and Bilikins, since then. Previously, Burwell worked for USA Today, The Detroit News, the New York Daily News, and New York Newsday.

Named one of the top 10 sports columnists in the country by the Associated Press Sports Editors in 2007, Burwell received numerous awards and recognition for his work throughout his career. He won awards from the United Press International, Professional Basketball Writers Association, Professional Football Association, and the Associated Press, and in 2013 his video columns for the Post-Dispatch, “Upon Further Review,” were recognized by Editor and Publisher.

Tributes to Burwell poured in on Twitter, as teams and players as well as current and former co-workers expressed their condolences and memories. Here’s a look at some of those reactions.
