After getting back on track down the stretch following a trade deadline deal with Milwaukee, Jonathan Broxton will once again be wearing the birds on the bat in 2016, as the Cardinals announced on Thursday that they’ve signed the veteran right-hander to a two-year, $7.5 million contract.

The 31-year-old will receive $3.75 million in each of the next two seasons under the deal, which includes full no-trade protection, according to multiple reports.

A two-time All-Star, Broxton thrived in St. Louis after stumbling to a 5.89 ERA while allowing five home runs in 36 2/3 innings with the Brewers earlier last season. The two-time All-Star crafted a 3-3 record with a 2.66 ERA and 26 strikeouts over the final 23 2/3 innings of the season.

“Jonathan did a very nice for us and we felt he gives our bullpen the needed flexibility on the back end,” Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak told MLB.com’s Jenifer Langosch. “We are excited for him to stay and are grateful for his commitment to the Cardinals.”

After this past season, the redbirds declined Broxton’s $9 million option in favor of a $1 million buyout, but the club opted to bring back the veteran of 11 big-league seasons to help solidify their bullpen.

Broxton boasts a 39-35 career record with a 3.23 ERA and 118 saves (10th among active pitchers) in 608 career appearances.
