The Cardinals announced prior to Sunday’s series finale against the Cubs at Wrigley Field that the team has recalled right-handed pitched Daniel Ponce de Leon from Memphis and optioned right-hander Ryan Helsley to the AAA club.
Ponce de Leon has started 11 games for Memphis this season, pitching to a 4-4 record and 3.90 ERA in just over 55 frames while striking out 7.6 batters per nine innings.
Helsley, meanwhile, has pitched 10 innings with the big-league club this season, allowing three earned runs in 10 innings while striking out 11 and walking five. The right-hander owns a 3.86 ERA in 23 1/3 innings at the AAA level this season.
