On Thursday night the St. Louis Cardinals announced on Twitter that they have traded right-handed pitcher Sam Gaviglio to the Mariners for infielder/outfielder Ty Kelly.

Kelly, 26, hit .263 with 15 home runs and 80 RBI this past season at the Mariners Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma and has extensive experience at second base, third base, and in the corner outfield spots. Kelly will likely be competing for a utility spot on the roster with Pete Kozma, Greg Garcia, and Dean Anna.
Gaviglio was drafted by the Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft and posted a 4.28 ERA over 136 2/3 innings this past season for Double-A Springfield.
