In a Friday morning piece, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch examines the recent control struggles of Michael Wacha, who walked four batters over just four innings of work in game one of the team’s doubleheader on Wednesday.

“It’s not what the team needed,” Wacha said. “I don’t think the workload has much to do with it. The body still feels good. The arm still feels good. I haven’t been making pitches the way I need to the last month. I’ve got to figure something out and start competing a lot better out there.”

Goold also details the team’s efforts to help Wacha get back on track as well as the 24-year-old’s plan to right the ship in the article.

WEEKEND ROTATION

With game one of the National League Championship series not until next Friday (10/9), the Cardinals will be able to use their regular starters over the weekend and still arrange them in the order they wish for the first round of the playoffs. Jaime Garcia gets the nod for the redbirds on Friday, followed by John Lackey and Lance Lynn on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
