Former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher and St. Louis native Kyle McClellan announced his retirement from baseball on Thursday through the Facebook page of his Brace For Impact 46 charity.
McClellan, a graduate of Hazelwood West High School, was drafted by the Cardinals in the 25th round of the 2002 draft. In five years wearing the birds on the bat from 2008-2012, McClellan posted a 3.69 ERA with 19 wins. He pitched briefly for the Rangers in 2013 before undergoing shoulder surgery last November. The 30-year-old said in his post that he had recently received word from his doctor that he would not be able to “pitch at a high level again.”
