Greg Garcia recalled from Memphis as Carpenter placed on paternity list

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals announced today [Thursday] that infielder Matt Carpenter has been placed on Major League Baseball’s Paternity List and that the team has recalled infielder Greg Garcia from Memphis (AAA). Garcia, 26, began the season on the Cardinals Opening Day roster and appeared in 10 games before being optioned to Memphis on April 17. The left-handed hitting Garcia batted .600 (6-for-10) with a home run and two RBI in his earlier stint with St. Louis. He was batting .269 (28-for-104) with 8 RBI in 30 games at Memphis.

Garcia, who owns a .335 career batting mark (11-for-31) as a pinch-hitter with two pinch-hit home runs, wears uniform no. 35.
