St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said that the team expects to non-tender infielder Daniel Descalso during a radio interview Thursday with Mike Kelly on KMOX.
After Wednesday’s signing of infielder Dean Anna to a major league contract, Descalso’s future with the Cardinals looked very uncertain, and now it appears the 28-year-old’s days with the team may be over. Anna provides the team with a superior glove to Descalso around the infield and seems to have much more offensive potential as well.
Mozeliak said on Thursday that Anna gives the club “some depth for our system” and that the team likes “his offensive projection.” Mozeliak added that Anna was “a nice type of player to add now,” while acknowledging that he can imagine “Descalso will want to move on. He’s going to want more at-bats and it will be tough for him here.”
