Jason Heyward will not be wearing the birds on the bat in 2015.
Numerous sources, including Jon Heyman of CBS Sports and Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, have now confirmed the division-rival Chicago Cubs have signed the 26-year-old outfielder.
Terms of the contract are not yet known, but Heyman reports the Cubs landed Heyward for less than $200MM, despite the fact that the Nationals are said to have offered around or exactly$200MM.
As for the Cardinals, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the team had “remained aggressive with their offer until there was a final decision.”
More to come.
