After an abdominal strain caused him to take a few days off from any baseball activity, Cards ace Adam Wainwright returned to the mound Monday morning to throw a 30-40 pitch bullpen session, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Wainwright slowly increased the intensity of his pitches throughout the bullpen and also worked on his curveball. The right-hander met with the team’s trainers Monday morning to receive clearance to throw a bullpen after abdominal pain suffered after putting a weight back on the weight rack caused him to travel to St. Louis to see a specialist, where he was diagnosed with an abdominal strain.
Mike Matheny told Brian Stull of St. Louis Baseball Weekly that there is still “a long way to go” before Wainwright pitches in a game. “His arm feels good. It’s in a great slot. Everything’s coming out nice, he’s just got to stay on top of it,” Matheny told Stull.
