Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright excited in the fifth inning of the team’s series finale against the Cubs with left-hamstring tightness, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch was among those to report.

Wainwright surrendered three runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings before exiting with the team’s trainer. Giovanny Gallegos came on in relief.

The 37-year-old is returning to St. Louis to be evaluated, and redbirds manager Mike Shildt said Wainwright is likely to miss at least one start, MLB.com’s Anne Rogers tweets.

Wainwright suffered the injury while legging out a double in the top of the fifth inning. If he does end up missing his next start, the Cardinals could end up putting Wainwright on the injured list.
