Cardinals closer Trevor Rosenthal will not pitch in the All-Star Game Tuesday night after “feeling a little sore” following a throwing session on Monday, MLB.com’s Jenifer Langosch reports.

After speaking to National League manager Bruce Bochy and Cardinals’ skipper Mike Matheny, the decision was made that Rosenthal would serve only as a spectator at this year’s Midsummer Classic.

The 25-year-old had an excellent first half, posting a 1.49 ERA with strikeouts while converting 26 saves over 42 1/3 innings, however he had back-to-back rough outings in his final two appearances before the break and could certainly use the time off to rest.

This is Rosenthal’s first All-Star selection in his four years in the majors.
