The Cardinals are preparing to make a series of roster moves on Wednesday after being swept in Tuesday’s doubleheader by the Cubs, and reliever Marcus Hatley has already been told he’ll be sent down to AAA Memphis, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports. Additionally, the team’s 26th man for the doubleheader, lefty Tyler Lyons, will be optioned to Memphis as well, and it’s possible Tim Cooney, Wednesday’s other starter, will also be sent down.

That move depends on who the Cardinals plan to start on Sunday in Jaime Garcia’s place. If they want Lyons to make the start, they’ll recall him on Sunday and option Cooney as well, but if they decide on Cooney, they’ll keep him on the big league roster until then, according to Langosch.

One thing that does seem likely is the addition of a position player to the roster following Kolten Wong’s concussion diagnosis after exiting game one on Tuesday. The team was already playing with just a four man bench, and even if Wong can avoid the DL, it’s likely the team will call up a bat. Memphis outfielder Stephen Piscotty was a late scratch from Tuesday night’s lineup with no reason given, but Piscotty isn’t currently on the 40-man roster, thus some one would have to be removed from it to make room for Piscotty. General manager John Mozeliak recently told Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Piscotty has been working out at first base.

Mozeliak declined to comment to reporters on the matter Tuesday night.
