After making his third excellent defensive play in as many days in the fifth inning, Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong exited the first game of the team’s doubleheader against the Cubs in the seventh inning due to was was initially classified as a head contusion.

Although Wong told reporters Tuesday afternoon that he “checked out fine” in concussion tests, the 24-year-old did admit he was still dealing with a headache. After he was held out of the team’s 7-4 loss in the nightcap of a day-night doubleheader (with Matt Carpenter playing second base), Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reported that despite what he said, Wong was diagnosed with a mild concussion. As Derrick Goold of the Post-Dispatch reports, Wong will be evaluated before the club decides whether or not to make a roster move.

While manager Mike Matheny admitted that there are some moving parts in terms of pitchers and that there is a need for another bat, GM John Mozeliak had not comment on the situation.
