Cardinals place Trevor Rosenthal on paternity leave, recall righty Tuivailala from Memphis

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., August 28, 2015 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight’s game in San Francisco that they have placed reliever Trevor Rosenthal on the paternity leave list and recalled from Memphis (AAA) right-handed pitcher Sam Tuivailala, pronounced tooee-vah-lah-lah.

Tuivailala, 22, will be joining the Major League club for the fourth time this season. In 10 prior games with St. Louis the righty was 0-1 with a 1.80 ERA. After allowing single runs in his first two appearances, he currently has an eight-game scoreless streak (8.0 innings) with the Cardinals. At Memphis, Tuivailala was 3-1 with a 1.76 ERA and 16 saves in 39 games, 41.0 innings pitched. Tuivailala will wear uniform #64.

Rosenthal, who earned his 41st save in last night’s win at Arizona, is tied for the National League lead in saves (PIT Melancon) and is ranked 3rd among relievers with his 1.52 ERA. Rosenthal, 25, and his wife, Lindsey, are expecting their second child, joining daughter Chloe (9/13/13).
