Cardinals searching for bench options, Reynolds and Weeks possibilities

The Cardinals are continuing to search for a right-handed bat to potentially pair with Matt Adams at first base or Kolten Wong at second, and Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that two players who played for the central division rival Milwaukee Brewers are on the list of possibilities for General Manager John Mozeliak. According to Goold, second baseman Rickie Weeks and corner infielder Mark Reynolds, both free agents, are potential matches with the Cardinals.

Weeks, 32, hit .274 playing in a platoon role at second base for the Brewers last season but has played only spent time at second base and as the designated hitter in his major league career.

Reynolds, 30, provides a big power bat and the ability to play the infield corners, but also a large strikeout total. He tallied 122 strikeouts in 2014, but also 22 home runs and is known as a quality pinch hitter.

Other options mentioned by Goold include John Mayberry Jr. (OF/1B, 30 years old), Kyle Blanks (OF/1B, 28 years old), Gaby Sanchez (1B, 30 years old), and Corey Hart (OF/1B, 32 years old).
