Cards don’t let rain ruin Friday workout

Despite a soggy day down in Jupiter, Florida on Friday, Mike Matheny made sure his club still got in some form of workout. From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

Matheny insisted the Cardinals would not lose a workout day to rain nor have their schedule upset. That required Matheny and his staff to improvise Friday morning creative uses for indoor space. The Cardinals had players pushing weights on sleds down hallways. The clubhouse became an area to work on abdominal exercises. A multipurpose room was used for stretching and agility. The Cardinals have fanned out through their building before during rainstorms to get workouts in.

Unable to take the field to work on situations, the Cardinals instead brought the situations into the conference room. Pitchers and hitters were scheduled in groups to gather and talk about events that might happen in games and exchange thoughts.

The redbirds did make it back onto the fields on Saturday. Brian Stull of St. Louis Baseball Weekly provides some photos from the day.
