Kevin Siegrist hits DL with Mono; Tuivailala recalled from Memphis

The St. Louis Cardinals announced [Friday] that left-handed pitcher Kevin Siegrist has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 30, due to mononucleosis.

Right-handed reliever Sam Tuivailala has been recalled from Memphis (AAA) and will join the Cardinals for tonight’s series opener with Milwaukee.

Tuivailala, 23, was 2-1 with a 5.06 ERA in 29 games for the Triple-A Redbirds, converting 13 of 16 save opportunities. “Tui” fanned 48 batters in his 32.0 innings pitched, and during the month of June, he converted 8 of 10 save opportunities, striking out 20 batters in 13.1 innings pitched.

The 6-3, 225-pound Tuivailala owns a career mark of 0-1, 5.17 ERA in 16 games with the Cardinals between 2014 and 2015. He’s recorded 21 strikeouts in his 15.2 innings pitched in the majors.

Tuivailala wears uniform no. 64.
