Nine players assigned to minors in Cardinals first roster moves of spring

JUPITER, Fla. • The Cardinals announced their first set of roster moves of the spring Sunday night, with nine players being either optioned or reassigned to minor league camp.

Pitchers Luke Weaver, Corey Littrell, Trey Nielsen, Daniel Poncedeleon, and J.C. Sulburan were reassigned to the minors, while left-hander Jayson Aquino, claimed off waivers by the redbirds in December, was optioned to AAA Memphis.

Catchers Steve Bean, Luis Cruz, and Alberto Rosario were also optioned to the club’s minor league camp here in Jupiter.

As Brian Stull of STL Baseball Weekly notes, the Cardinals now have 50 players on their major league Spring Training roster, including 12 non-roster invitees.
