In their search for offensive help, the Cardinals have reportedly discussed first baseman Adam Lind with the Brewers in the previous days. While a report Tuesday from Jon Heyman of CBS Sports indicated that the Brewers, who are known to be sellers at the trade deadline, could end up holding on to Lind, ESPN’s Jayson Stark said he’s heard from other teams interested in Lind who believe he will end up with the Cardinals.
On Wednesday, MLB.com’s Jenifer Langosch reported that, according to a source, the Cardinals had called Milwaukee about Lind recently, but talks failed to gain traction due to “a lack of mutual interest” in the other pieces involved in a potential deal.
UPDATE 7/30 11:00 am: Just hours after Matt Holliday collapsed in the dugout during Wednesday’s game after straining his right quad once again, general manager John Mozeliak made a move, acquiring first baseman/corner outfielder Brandon Moss from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for pitching prospect Rob Kaminsky (read about the trade and it’s impact here).
Mozeliak could pull the trigger again before Friday’s non-waiver trade deadline, but it seems unlikely that any big deal would transpire given the high price the Cardinals had to pay for Moss (Kaminsky was recently rated as the organiztion’s third-best prospect).
